Barioz and Crêt du Poulet

Barioz provides access to the Crêt du Poulet refuge and lies on the Balcons de Belledonne cycling route. The tourist office describes a landscape of alpine meadows, forest and views over Belledonne and Haut Bréda.

One area, several practices

In summer, Barioz leads towards Crêt du Poulet and its alpine scenery. In spring, paths and mountain biking take over when conditions allow. In autumn, the forest changes colour. In winter, the area has a Nordic character and the refuge can be reached on snowshoes according to the official sheet.

The refuge sheet lists the Foyer de fond du Barioz as the start and gives 6 km, 3 hours 15 minutes and a moderate level for this return route. These figures apply to this route, not to every outing in the area.

  • Reference start: Foyer de fond du Barioz
  • Road, walking, mountain biking and snow by season
  • Use mountain-appropriate clothing and equipment

Through the seasons

In summer, the Barioz area gives access to mountain pastures and the Crêt du Poulet refuge. In winter it offers Nordic skiing and snowshoe trails. Check opening status, snow cover and conditions with the tourist office before setting out.

Plan your outing

  • Check the D280/D281B road and weather conditions.
  • Do not confuse the refuge outing with a complete cycling loop.
