Activities and outings

Vénétier lakes and Habert d’Aiguebelle

The Habert d’Aiguebelle mountain hut lies in the heart of Belledonne on the Haute Traversée de Belledonne. Its official page lists Lac du Vénétier among possible walks from the refuge and explains that these outings may be done on foot in summer or on touring skis in winter, depending on conditions.

A mountain outing

The Alpes Isère listing states that the walking route from Prapoutel is closed in winter and requires favourable weather. This applies to that particular route: summer hiking and winter ski touring follow different itineraries and involve different risks.

Before leaving, check the mountain forecast and, in winter, the local avalanche forecast (BERA in France). The refuge asks visitors to respect grazing animals, keep dogs on leads, keep away from wildlife and match the outing to their abilities.

  • Habert d’Aiguebelle: 1,740 m according to the refuge
  • Check access and season on the official sheet
  • Snow and cols can substantially change the outing

The loop from Prapoutel

The loop listed by Alpes Isère starts at Pré Bouquet in Prapoutel. It covers 15 km with 1,127 m of elevation gain and is rated difficult. It passes the lakes and Habert d’Aiguebelle and is suited to prepared hikers.

Plan your outing

  • The refuge is a route landmark: use the official route description and weather forecast to plan your walk and return, taking your abilities into account.
  • Bring water, warm and rain clothing, and suitable footwear.
